About SRK

At Simmons Rottweiler Kennel (SRK), we have taken something which started as a family passion and turned it into a successful breeding business. After acquiring a lot of information about the breeding process, we decided to do our part in preserving it, which led to the birth of SRK.

We breed our dogs to have friendly dispositions and fit in seamlessly as incredible family pets. We strive to breed the best Rottweilers we can by selecting dogs with awesome temperaments, beauty, healthy history and excellent pedigrees. Upon homing our pups, we educate their new owners to ensure these precious creatures get the love, care and attention they deserve while also getting the space and exercise they require.

We breed responsibly and according to the best practices of the trade.

We have been building our reputation as a trusted Rottweiler Breeder in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. We are ethical hobby breeders with great respect and immense love for the breed. We are dedicated to producing well-rounded, quality Rottweilers that are exceptional in mind, body, temperament, and conformation. Our goal is to better the breed by selecting the most correct dogs for our program.

Rottweiler

Breed Origin

Rottweiler, a breed of working dog which is thought to be descended from drover dogs (cattle-driving dogs) left by the Roman legions in Rottweil, Germany, after the Romans abandoned the region during the 2nd century CE. The Rottweiler accompanied local butchers on buying expeditions from the Middle Ages to about 1900, carrying money in a neck pouch to market. It has also served as a guard dog, a drover’s dog, a draft dog, a rescue dog, and a police dog.

"Are your dogs German?"

Technically, all Rottweilers are German because the breed originated in Germany. Therefore, any Rottweiler, regardless of where it was born, are of German descent.

Tail Docking

We do not dock tails at our camp for a couple reasons, but primarily because tails of any breed dog are used to express emotion and mood. We view the Rotties tail similarly to a human’s eyebrows or smile. Also, tail docking and ear cropping is illegal in Germany, where the breed originated. The International Canine Federation (FCI) only authorize hunting dogs have docked tails (ex: pointers and spaniels). Rottweilers having docked tails is strictly a cosmetic procedure that is primarily done in America.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) shows typically favor Rottweilers with docked tails. “Ear cropping and tail docking, as prescribed in certain breed standards, are acceptable practices integral to defining and preserving breed character, enhancing good health, and preventing injuries” states the AKC. Docking a Rottweiler tail is an American practice that doesn’t preserve the breed’s character; instead, it is solely a cosmetic surgery intended to create more intimidation factor like ear cropping in Dobermans.
