Spring Hunt Test Results
It’s only April, but the Team SRK is already rolling toward
the ’06 AKC Master National. The Master dogs started arriving
back after the end of hunting season, but Sugar, Stormy, Ruby, Rose,
and Sonny have already qualified. Lizzie, Lucky, and Bailey are
right behind needing only 1 more pass.
Breeze, a 2-time Master Natl. Finalist, returned late and then went
in season. She will make her first appearance at Ozark.
Newcomers Champ and Max (not yet 2) already have 2 Master passes
and are in the hunt. Like most hot young males, steadiness and honoring
are their two biggest obstacles. If they can qualify, the SRK team
should go to the line with 11 dogs at the National in Morgan Hill,
CA.
The most recent test was Heart of Texas, held near Temple, TX. The
SRK crew went 10 for 10 in the Master. In the Junior, owner Carter
Lyon handled Beau to his JH title, as did 9 year old Samantha Brophy
with Rosie. Congrats to both teams!
Earlier in the Spring, Glenn Coterill handled Kasey to her Junior
title with 4 straight passes.
Next
test: Ozark, April 29
Ozark
Test Nets 10 More Master Passes
The Ozark Test,
set in the beautiful hills of NW Arkansas, yielded another big day
for the SRK team. Breeze, who had been out all Spring, made her
presence knows with excellent work throughout.
In all 10 out
of 11 SRK Master dogs passed. Champ was the only dog lost, when
he lost control at the end of the water blind—literally the
last bird in the series. He managed to redeem himself in the Senior,
as he passed and received his SH title. Stella also passed the Senior.
Bailey, Lizzie
and Lucky have now qualified for the National, giving Team SRK a
total of 8. In the Junior, John Whiteside handled Jett to her Junior
title.
Next
week: Big D
Hot
Streak Continues at Big D & Tulsa
The Big D Master
featured some nice technical water and challenging water blinds.
Team SRK once again had a big week, passing 8 out of 11. Breeze,
running only her second test of the Spring, again performed near
perfect work. The only casualties were Bailey (sloppy water blind)
and the 2 “young bucks”, Max and Champ. Champ couldn’t
do the 1st series marks, and youthful Max crept out too far (again!)
on the honor. The rest of the team turned in great work.
Out of 49 entries,
only 18 passed, which meant the rest of the field passed only 10
of 38.
In the Senior,
Stella got her 3rd straight pass. Over at the Junior, Aron Nance
and Dude passed and got their JH title.
Following Big
D, the 8 qualified dogs went home for Summer break, leaving only
Breeze, Champ, Max and a new dog, Rebel, to run at Tulsa. Despite
this, the SRK crew had another great outing, with 3 of 4 Master
dogs making the grade. Rebel, Champ, and Breeze performed brilliantly
with no handles on the marks. This qualified Breeze for the Master
National.
Stella had
fantastic work in the Senior and is 4 for 4, with 1 more needed
for her SH title.
Summer Trip
Max & Rebel Qualify
With the Spring circuit drawing to a close and almost all the Master
dogs now qualified, Steve did not have enough dogs left needing
points to justify a Summer trip. As a result, he handed over handling
duties for Max and Rebel into the capable hands of Lyle Steinman.
Champ, needing only 2 more passes for his MH, was reluctantly retired
by his owner due to family considerations.
Both Max and
Rebel adjusted quickly to Lyle’s program and both finished
up at Minot, ND. This give the SRK team 11 dogs qualified
for the ’06 Master National in California!
